American Pianists Association’s Jazz Competition Open for Nominations

The American Pianists Association (APA), based in Indianapolis, Ind., has announced that the call for nominations for its 2023 jazz competition is now open. The winner will receive the Cole Porter Fellowship, which consists of a cash prize of $50,000, as well as various career and performance opportunities. Four additional finalists each receive a cash prize of $25,000. Past winners of the jazz competition include Emmet Cohen, Sullivan Fortner, Aaron Diehl, and Dan Tepfer.

Candidates must be between 18 and 30 years old and a citizen of the United States. After being nominated, the candidate must submit materials to APA by Feb. 9, 2022, including an audition tape with a minimum of 30 minutes of music. A preliminary jury will select five finalists from an anonymous preliminary screening of audition materials. The finalists will participate in various live concert settings in New York and Indianapolis, with the culmination on April 23, 2023 when the winner will be announced.
