UPDATE 1/13/22: Beginning tomorrow (Friday, Jan. 14) and continuing through January 22, Winter Jazzfest will present online live streams of 30 different groups and 150 musicians performing from cities all over the world, including New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Johannesburg, Miami, St. Louis, Rio de Janeiro, New Orleans, and more. In-person events are being rescheduled for later in the year.

Over the past few days, it began to seem inevitable, and now the official word is out from NYC Winter Jazzfest 2022: Most of the 18th annual confab’s in-person events, originally scheduled for January 13-22, will be postponed due to health concerns arising from the highly contagious Omicron variant of SARS CoV-2 (a.k.a. COVID-19).

In a statement that JazzTimes received via email, the festival organizers wrote, “Even if we were to follow all current NYC & NYS guidelines with vaccination requirements and masking enforcement, we know many of you would be anxious to attend and given the heightened transmissibility of this variant, we feel that this is the most prudent way to proceed. The safety of our patrons, our staff, all musicians and of YOU is our main priority.”

Several shows will be streamed live during the original dates of the festival. Details on those and on the new dates planned for the postponed events are still to be announced. Winter Jazzfest 2022 ticket buyers are also eligible for significant discount offers from festival partners.

For more information on streamed events, rescheduling, discount offers, refunds, and more, visit the Winter Jazzfest website. In addition, you can keep track of further festival developments via Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
